Candies, Snacks and Sodas That Face the Chopping Block

Bills advancing in multiple states could see thousands of America’s favorite candies, snacks, and sodas banned in their current form. New York, Pennsylvania and Illinois have advanced measures targeting a total of 13 additives that are already banned in some European countries over alleged health risks. New Jersey and Missouri are also considering the bans, and if passed they would force companies to change their recipes or face legal action. Experts say the move could change the look, taste and texture of some of America’s favorite food items, including Fruit Loops, Lucky Charms, Oreos, Jello, Pop Tarts, M&Ms, and Gatorade. If passed, the ban won’t take effect until January 2027. The lag is to give manufacturers time to update their recipes.
