Roughly the size of a studio apartment, the world’s largest elevator weighs a whopping 16 tons, is supported by 9 steel cables, and can accommodate 235 people at a time. Finnish elevator company KONE installed the elevator inside the Jio World Center in Mumbai, India. Designed to cater to large groups of people attending weddings and exhibitions, the elevator relies on an innovative pulley beam system that consists of 18 large pulleys, 9 steel cables, and rails fixed over steel columns. The unique 4-panel glass door and glass walls offer panoramic views of the complex and its beautiful gardens. Although it only travels between 5 floors at a speed of 3 feet per second, the record-breaking elevator also features two comfortable sofas for passengers to enjoy. KONE has not revealed the price, but considering its features, it couldn’t have been cheap.
